What is Cystic Fibrosis?

Cystic Fibrosis is the most common hereditary disease in the white race. It affects the respiratory and gastrointestinal system with symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, malnutrition, etc.
Prenatal testing for cystic fibrosis is highly recommended. If both parents are carriers, the probability of a child born with CF is 1 out 4 as shown below.

The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists posted an update for carrier screening for CF in April 2011 and stated that “Prenatal and preconception carrier screening for CF was introduced into routine obstetric practice in 2001” 1
